Liz Ring Carlson's Biography

             


 

       Liz Ring Carlson is currently is the Heartland Zone Public Affairs Assistant Manager.  Her responsibilities include leading the External Relations Team in the Heartland Zone which is made up of 6 states in the upper Midwest.  She is responsible for managing the company’s community relations, charitable giving, media relations, and government affairs.Liz also is a professional and personal coach. She enjoys helping people set goals and achieve them as well as assisting them in their personal image and brand.  Liz grew up in Lincoln, NE and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in History with an emphasis in Leadership Development.  Liz then started at State Farm Insurance as a Fire Claim Representative and has been at State Farm for almost 15 years.  Prior to Public Affairs she held leadership roles in the Claims Department and in the Learning and Development Department. 

Liz is passionate about being a lifelong learner and has taken insurance continuing education classes including:  Claims Law Courses, Associate in Claims designation and is currently pursuing her chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.  Liz is very active in the Diversity and Inclusion activities, the company’s Employee Resources Groups, and the State Farm Mentoring Program both as a mentor and mentee. 

Community involvement is a priority for Liz, especially civic responsibility.  Liz recently concluded her term as Board President for the YWCA Lincoln and is a board member for Milkworks.   Politics is another one of her passions. Liz has worked on political campaigns, fundraising activities, and grassroots projects over the past 15 years.  During this time she received two awards for her volunteer work and engaging young people into the political process.  She was also chosen as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention 2000 and 2004.  Most recently Liz served on the campaign committee for the Lincoln West Haymarket Arena which recently passed as a ballot initiative.

Liz has also been active in a variety of activities and organizations over the years including such groups as PRSA (Public Relations Society of America), the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Young Professionals Group, Lincoln Community Playhouse, Leadership Lincoln, Junior Achievement and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  Liz was selected as the 2008 Young Professional of the Year award by Lincoln Young Professionals Group and the Chamber of Commerce.  She was also one of Lincoln Business Journal’s “40 under 40” in 2006.  Recently she was awarded Strictly Business Magazine’s Best Dressed in Lincoln.   She also was just selected for the 2011 Leadership Nebraska class.

Liz is married to Justin Carlson, a financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors.  They have two daughters, Britta, who is 4 and Annika who is 2. Liz can be reached at lizringcarlson@gmail.com.
